Lot Essay

Many of the scenes decorating this service have been derived from Höroldt's Schulz Codex. The scene of the figures playing backgammon on the chocolate-pot is taken from sheet 31 and a scene of a figure releasing insects from a box on a teabowl is taken from sheet 96, both of which are illustrated on pp. 20 and 21 with their corresponding sources. Other subjects not published here include the sedan chair scene on the hot-milk jug taken from sheet 77, a scene on the teapot with a child carrying a dignitary's train taken from sheet 55 and a scene on a coffee-cup with a woman carrying a child on her shoulders taken from sheet 51.
