In her 'Chronologie' of Le Gray's life, Sylvie Aubenas outlines Le Gray's travels in the Middle East and notably in Egypt in the 1860s. She records his trip up the Nile in 1867.

An exceedingly rare print of this austere and minimal landscape from Le Gray's time in Egypt -- showing a vista of the cataracts that was destined to be lost in the raised water level after the construction of the Aswan dam.
