Sebbene diversi per provenienza, sia questo dipinto che quello presentato al lotto che segue hanno condiviso la stessa vicenda critica. Entrambi, in un primo tempo, sono stati attribuiti ad Antonio Guardi, per confronto con la scena di interno a piccole figure detta "L'arte dei Coronari", conservata a Ca' Rezzonico, anch'essa di controversa attribuzione. La critica più recente riferisce l'intero gruppo alla tarda attività di Francesco Guardi.
