4 volumes, 2° (565 x 396mm). Engraved title vignettes, 344 engraved plates by P. Laurent and numerous others, 8 vignettes in text. Half-titles. (Marginal tear not affecting image on one plate, some spotting of text and plates, mainly marginal but sometimes heavy, occasional browning.) Finely-bound in contemporary russia with gilt ruled and palmette borders, gilt spines with Greek key pattern at head and foot, palmette turn-ins, gilt edges (a few light scuff marks on covers). This colossal work, published in 80 parts, is listed by Cohen/de Ricci since its artistic merit links it so closely to the 18th century. The first eight parts were entited Le Musée Napoléon, and all four volumes are dedicated to the man who had recently added so many trophies of war to the Louvre's treasures. The 'Avertissement' points out that subscribers may arrange and bind the plates and their explanatory text according to personal preference. Copies are also recorded with 345 and 346 plates.
