DUPRÉ, Louis (1789-1837). Album grec. Paris: H. Gache [ca. 1825].
Oblong 2° (340 x 257 mm). 13 lithographed plates on china paper after Dupré, by Thierry frères, each plate within printed borders with captions, printed title in the upper margin of the first plate. (Spotting, the last three plates yellowed in the mount, marginal tear in one plate.) Contemporary, probably original, purple half sheep, title in gilt on the upper side, gilt edges (rubbed, endpapers nearly detached).
VERY RARE SEPARATE ISSUE OF THE VIGNETTES FROM VOYAGE à ATHèNES, 'PROBABLY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL [BOOK] PRODUCED ON GREECE AND TURKEY' (Blackmer). After spending a few years in Italy, Dupré was invited to join a party of Englishmen, including Hyett, Hay and Vivian, on a tour of Greece and Turkey. ABPC records no other copy selling at auction in over 35 years (this one sold, Christie's Paris, 29 Nov 2007, 32,000 euros). Atabey 381 (note); Blackmer 517 (note).
