Lot Essay
US$ 50,000-70,000
EUR 38,000-52,200
With a Parmigiani Fleurier presentation box.
The "Bugatti Type 370" introduced in 2004, is a very good example of Parmigiani's expansive creativity. Moving away from the traditions and designs of classical watch making, the "Bugatti Type 370" represents the first transversal movement. This wristwatch was inspired by the famed Italian car manufacturer Bugatti. The engine-inspired movement contains five separate plates and double rim-shaped wheels all resting upon silent blocks. The complexities of the design are revealed by five surrounding sapphire crystals. The ten-day movement employs an interesting pen setting mechanism for setting and winding that transmits energy to the watch via a clutch mechanism, a spherical differential and conic gears.
The "Bugatti Type 370" is limited to a total production of 150 pieces, 50 each with red, silver or black dial. The present watch is numbered 41/50. Christie's sold an identical model with black dial for HK$1,320,000 (US$169,600) in November 2005, sale of Important Watches, Lot 2832.
