Lot Essay

Henrietta, daughter of David Garnett and Angelica (daughter of Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell), is shown at Charleston where she and her three sisters frequently posed for their grandparents, sometimes reading or playing musical instruments, in the 1950s. Henrietta Garnett is a writer whose latest book was Anny. A Life of Anne Thackeray Ritchie (2004).

We are very grateful to Richard Shone for his assistance in preparing the catalogue entries for lots 41-43 and 85-87.
