A Walrus Ivory Chess Set
Kholmogory, 19th century
Carved as Turks and Romans, the kings enthroned, the bishops modelled as elephants, the knights on horseback, the rooks as ships and the pawns as foot soldiers, with box, board and fitted case, the box and board bearing labels inscribed 'General Bronowski', together with two photographs inscribed by hand on the reverses 'Général Bronowski père' and 'Général Bronowski fils'
