A similarly modelled but undated salt from the collection of Jean and Kenneth Chorley sold Christie's, New York, 25 January 1993, lot 16, now in the Longridge Collection and a blue and white example dated 1674 from the collection of the Hon. Simon Sainsbury, 'The Creation of an English Arcadia', Christie's, London, 18 June 2008, lot 132.
Michael Archer, Delftware. The Tin-glazed Earthenware of the British Isles. A Catalogue of the Collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1997, pp. 325 & 326, no. G.2 and pl. 211, discusses a salt, in the museum collection (C.102-1950), with the addition of two candle holders behind the man's head. The author suggests that the model relates to a tin-glazed earthenware example from Flanders of late 16th or early 17th century date (Ibid. Fig. 42).
