FORE-EDGE PAINTINGS -- MONTGOMERY, James. The World before the Flood. London: Longman [etc.], 1814. 12°. (Without half-title.) Contemporary polished calf, covers with gilt border enclosing a octagonal figure in blind (spine restored), with fore-edge painting of a house by a river, too large to be 'Pope's House -- Twickenham' as identified in an inserted 19th-century manuscript note. Third edition; together with an 1821 edition of Thomson's The Seasons, with another fore-edge painting of a mansion on the Thames. (3)
