Stefan's refutation of the then increasingly widespread legends about imminent apocalypse, and in particular Talitskii's claim that Peter I was himself the antichrist. This copy is from the third edition, first published in 1703 and 1748; all editions are rare. An important transitional figure in Russian Orthodoxy, Stefan was both locum tenens of the Patriarchal Throne after the death of Patriarch Adrian in 1700, and the first presiding member of Peter I's new Holy Synod. Not in SK. Sopikov 396; cf. Op. Izdani Napechatannykh kirillitsei 26.
