Lot Essay

The '101ers' was Joe Strummer's first group, named after their squat at 101 Walterton Terrace. On 3 April 1976, a relatively-unknown band called the Sex Pistols opened for The 101'ers at a venue called "The Nashville Rooms" in London, an event Strummer claimed made him see the light to get actively involved in the punk scene. By July 1976 Strummer would be supporting The Sex Pistols with his new group The Clash.
