4o (350 x 237 mm). 6 etchings and 20 reproductions of prelimary drawings by MATISSE. Original brown cloth with gilding on front cover and spine; later brown cloth slipcase (lacking original publisher's slipcase, some light wear and soiling).

LIMITED EDITION, number 1363 of 1500 copies, SIGNED BY MATISSE. One of the very few American livres de peintres issued before World War II. According to George Macy, who undertook this only American publication of Matisse's illustrations, he asked the artist how many etchings the latter could provide for five thousand dollars.
