A PAIR OF OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE KNIFE-TRAYS
CIRCA 1820
Each shaped oblong with gadrooned border, side engraved with the Spencer crest below an earl's coronet; together with a similar later example by Elkington and Co., 1921, engraved with an 'A' cypher below a viscount's coronet
16¼ in. (41.5 cm.) long
The crest on the pair is presumably that of George John, 2nd Earl Spencer (1758-1834).
The cypher on the later example is possibly that of Albert Edward John, Viscount Althorp and later 7th Earl Spencer (1892-1975). (3)
