The bed crestings, pelmets and overdoors were previously used in the Patchwork Bedroom and Dressing Room, Althorp, which was dismantled during the 1980s. The Patchwork room was so known due to the hangings made for it by Charlotte, Countess Spencer (1835-1903) wife of the 5th Earl, and her sisters. The old hangings had had to be burnt following the death from smallpox in that room of Lord Charles Bruce in 1897, Lady Spencer's brother-in-law. The room is now known as the Ante Room and adjoins the Great Room at Althorp.
