A FINE FRENCH SILVER TUREEN
maker's mark of Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot, Paris, 1798-1809

On shaped triangular base with a band of water-leaves to the border, the circular tureen resting on three lions' paw feet terminating in foliage, the lower part of the body with a guilloché band, the upper section chased with a laurel leaf band, the slightly domed cover with foliate bud finial surrounded with laurel leaves and berries, the liner with two shell handles, each engraved above with accolé coat-of-arms beneath a count's coronet, and with later added cylindrical silver-plated warming lamp

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Comte Agénor de Gasparin (1810-1871), député de la Corse whose family originates in Comtat Venaissin. He married Catherine-Valérie Boissier, femme de lettres, born in Geneva in 1813.
