maker's mark of Claude Aubry, Paris, 1776-1777, one piece of the same date, but by another maker

Fiddle pattern and engraved with coat-of-arms, comprising;
Twelve table-spoons
eleven table-forks
a serving-fork
an olive-spoon
a sugar-sifter
and a matching silver-gilt mustard-spoon
the serving-fork, 25cm. (9in.) long,
the olive-spoon, 30.4cm. (11 7/8in.) long

Lot Essay

Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian, nephew of Voltaire, was a renowned fable writer of the 18th Century. Born at Chateau de Florian (Languedoc) in 1755, he spent most of his years in Paris where he wrote in 1792 Fables, his most acclaimed work.
The coat-of-arms is that of Jean-Pierre-Hercule de Rey, Chevalier de Saint-Louis in 1758.
