Lot Essay

Prof. Francesca Baldassari has identified this as a reduced studio version of a painting by Simone Pignoni (see F. Baldassari, Simone Pignoni, Torino, 2008, p. 163 n. 108; private collection, 122 x 160 cm.). We are grateful for her assistance in cataloguing this lot, from photographs (written communication, 6 December 2008).

It is possible that the present work is a modello for the published work.
