Further details
Queen Victoria died at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight on 22nd January 1901. After lying in state the Queen's body was carried to the mainland on the 1st of February via the ship Alberta. In the final stage of the journey the coffin was placed on a gun carriage at Windsor, the horses however broke their harness, causing it to be dragged to St. George's Chapel by a Naval Guard of Honour. It is presumed that the above locket was given to a member of the Guard.
