A lacquer writing box (suzuribako) and stationery box (ryoshibako)
Meiji period (late 19th century)
The rectangular writing box with rounded corners and overhanging lid decorated in nashiji with repeated mon (family crests), the underside of the lid decorated on a nashiji ground with a longevity turtle sitting on a riverbank, the lower tray fitted with writing utensils and an inkstick holder in nashiji cases with silver fittings, a slate inkstone with fundame rim and a silver waterdropper (suiteki) with bamboo, the ground of the box nashiji and the rims gold;
