Of ring form, the rounded top and bottom each decorated with three shaped cartouches reserved on a ground of lotus scroll and containing a pair of blue dragons, each pair confronted on a red character medallion, shou, fu, and lu, the hinge and lock plates of cloud form, the interior gilded

Lot Essay

Three boxes of this date and unusual form, also decroated with dragons and the characters shou (longevity), fu (happiness) and lu (prosperity), but with a diaper pattern rather than lotus scroll ground visible between the cartouches, have been published: one by Sir Harry Garner, Chinese and Japanese Cloisonné Enamels, London, 1970, pl. 63B; one by Claudia Brown, Chinese Cloisonné: The Clague Collection, Phoenix Art Museum, 1980, pl. 31, and the third by Helmut Brinker and Albert Lutz, Chinese Cloisonné: The Pierre Uldry Collection, The Asia Society Galleries, New York, 1989, no. 166.
