A MASSIVE EMBROIDERED BANNER
LATE 19TH CENTURY
Finely worked in satin stitch, Peking knot and couched gold thread with two large five-clawed dragons, amidst clouds and flames above crashing waves and rockwork replete with auspicious emblems, confronted on a flaming pearl above a lotus blossom, the edges embroidered with floral scroll and further auspicious emblems reserved on the black silk border formed as large ruyi heads, all beneath a horizontal band with couched gold phoenixes amidst peony sprays, the whole reserved on the bright red felt ground
