HENRY ROBERTSON BOWERS (1883-1912)

Autograph letter signed ('Henry') to his sister May, R.I.M.S. Bhamo, Rangoon, 8 October 1907, 12 pages, 8vo, on bifolia, Royal Indian Marine paper.

Bowers sings the praises of his first (temporary) command, the Royal Indian Marine Service ship Bhamo ('everything just so. There is no doubt that for river work, she is just the thing'), in spite of what is evidently an evil reputation among the harbour-masters of the Irrawaddy; also recounting a dinner with a certain Mrs Vine ('She is the type I have always been keen on, -- not too tall -- very fair & light'), and on other matters.

Bowers served in the Royal Indian Marine service from February 1905 until he was summoned to join the Terra Nova expedition in March 1910.
