Details
1953 PLYMOUTH CRANBROOK
Chassis No. 13215406
Maroon and white with grey interior.
Engine: six cylinder in line, inlet over exhaust, 3,569cc, Carter single barrel carburettor, 100bhp; Gearbox: three speed manual; Brakes: four wheel drum; Suspension: front, wishbones and coil springs, rear, live axle and leaf springs. Left hand drive.
The Cranbrook was Plymouth's flagship four-door sedan, restyled for 1953 with all-new sheet metal and a one-piece windscreen.
V8 engines were still in the pipeline at Plymouth so the Cranbrook featured a sturdy inlet-over exhaust in-line six producing 100bhp. The gearbox had three speeds, with synchromesh on the two forward gears and the option of overdrive or a semi-automatic Hydrive transmission; modern, fully automatic gearboxes were not introduced until 1955.
The Cranbrook range came in saloon, coupe and station wagon form. 1953 was a record-breaking sales year for Plymouth and the Cranbrook four-door sedan was their top-selling model, with 298,976 units produced.
Sold new in Switzerland this example, finished in maroon with very original grey fabric trim, has been fully restored by its owner, who purchased the car 18 years ago. It is complete and its condition is described as very good although the headlining needs replacing and the fuel system may need some cleaning work due to lack of use.
A period American motor car, sold now with Swiss registration documents.
