AN INDIAN MAIL AND LAMELLAR SHIRT

The upper body constructed of a close-set pattern of large robust iron rings, both riveted and butted, arranged in alternate rows, the lower body of smaller rings extending over the thies, the arms of similar construction and of rings progressively smaller towards the cuffs, the front incorporating a pair of convex rectangular plates closed by a series of fish-like clasps, one plate cut with a brief inscription and a brief modern inscription on the inside, with additional plates at the sides and the back incorporating three vertical rows of overlapping lames
Together with an Indian mail and lamellar shirt, 17th century, the upper body formed entirely of large iron rings alternately riveted and butted, the lower portion extending to skirts covering the full length of the thies and formed of progressively smaller rings, the arms of similar construction, the front incorporating a pair of convex plates with clasp closures, the plates each cut with an inscription, with smaller plates at the sides and the back incorporating three vertical rows of small overlapping lames, retaining the original padded fabric lining (2)
