Th breadth of chair design over the centuries has been extraordinary and here we can glance at some of that diversity, ranging from the North Country chairs (Lot 222), sometimes referred to as 'drunkards' chairs, to the more humble painted windsor armchair (Lot 225). The sleeping chair (Lot 220) with hinged back is a rare survivor. The armchair (Lot 221) is most unusual being made of cedar instead of the more typical oak. The windsor chair-making traditions in England produced some high-quality chairs over many decades, such as these cabriole leg chairs (Lot 224 and 226). Yew was the most prized timber for windsors. Perhaps a more tradional design is of interest (Lot 223) or the unusual box-seat high chair in walnut, certainly a conversation piece. So, Take your seat.....
