'A new and decorative prototype map of the British Isles', with Abraham Goos's 'firm and clear' engraving 'copying John Speed's British Isles for outline and topographical details' (Shirley). The niches, containing paired figures in costume down the sides of each map, are also mostly taken from Speed. The top and bottom borders contain bird's-eye town plans of of the principal cities. It is a mark of the effectiveness of Visscher's design that it was later plagiarised by several publishers. RARE. Shirley 384.
