Lot Essay

Ayrton and his wife Elisabeth took a holiday in St. Rémy in September 1966 after his exhibition at the Grosvenor Gallery in July of that year.

The present work is sold with a letter from Ayrton asking for an image of the work for use on the backcover of the Exhibition catalogue which was accompanying his show Word and Image with Wyndham Lewis at the National Book League, London in 1971.
