A FACTORY ENGRAVED .31 'MODEL 1849' FIVE-SHOT SINGLE-ACTION PERCUSSION POCKET REVOLVER

With octagonal sighted barrel with 'SAML. COLT' script signature, cylinder with stage coach scene, frame with hand engraved 'COLTS PATENT', brass grip-strap and trigger-guard each retaining much original silvered finish, the former engraved 'E.M. MERRILL FROM HIS UNCLES JOSEPH & BENJ. APR 20TH 1861', ivory one-piece grips, and matching numbers throughout, the principle numbers marked with an 'I', the barrel, frame, grip-strap, trigger-guard and loading-lever lug each with Gustave Young style scroll engraving against a stippled ground, that on the left side of the barrel-lug inhabited by a griffin's head
