Persian manuscript on marbled or gold sprinkled paper, 66ff. plus 8 fly-leaves, each folio with 10ll. of black nasta'liq arranged in a variety of formations of one and two columns with double gold intercolumnar rules, text panels outlined with gold and polychrome rules, folios laid down between wide multicoloured margins with bold illumination of floral and fauna, first text with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece, space left for the second headpiece, first text signed Shah Qasim al-Katib, second text dated, in later lacquer boards with gul-o-bulbul design

Lot Essay

Shah Qasim worked in the dar al-sultaneh in Herat where he specialised in nasta'liq. His recorded work is dated between AH 1002/1593 AD and AH 1028/1619 AD. Examples of his work are preserved in the Gulestan Library, Tehran, the National Museum in Iran (formerly the Iran Bastan Museum) and the University of Hyderabad at Sind.
