Lot Essay

The approx. knot count is 9H x 8.5V per sq. cm.

This finely woven silk souf Kashan rug is the second souf Kashan from the "maharaja" carpets. The ground is very typically woven for the group, but the field has some unusual features. One remarkable design element is the flowering trees seen in the field which, when examined closely, show a variety of flowerheads closely together that seem more to date from the 1960s than from forty years earlier when this rug was woven.
