Gouache on paper, in the form of a crane with the formula "In the name of Allah the Merciful, the Compassionate". The artist's signature and seal in red ink on the lower left side, and another seal in red ink with the formula "God is Great" on the upper right side, glazed and framed - 34 x 18 1/2in (86.4 x 47cm)

Lot Essay

Yusuf Chen Jinhui is China's most celebrated Chinese Muslim calligrapher. His works were displayed in Kuala Lumpur (1996), Istanbul at the IRCICA (1997), Tehran (1999), Islamabad (2000) and Dubai (2003). His works are on permanent exhibit in Singapore's Museum of Asian Civilizations and have found their way into private collections in the Arab world, notably in the Emirates (see Selected Arabic Calligraphic Works of Chen Jinhui, Beijing, Nationalities Publishing House, 2002.)
