The projecting gilt-tooled leather-covered writing slope enclosing fitted cedar-lined interior and two short drawers, one with pencil inscription Right to underside, with pen slide and two further slides to either side, above four graduated drawers with locks 'J BRAMAH 14 PICCADILLY', on bun feet and recessed castors, the underside with printed label 'G.v.R BUCKINGHAM PALACE L.C.D ROOM NO.'
35 in. (89 cm.) high; 19½ in. (49.5 cm.) wide; 25 in. (63.5 cm.) deep
Provenance
During the 19th century the Royal Collection was extensively recorded and inventoried. This davenport is not branded and therefore was almost certainly acquired by Her Majesty Queen Mary and removed to storage at Buckingham Palace after her death, hence the label it bears. Subsequently it was removed to Kensington Palace, from where it was purchased directly by the current vendor whilst working at Kensington Palace in the 1970's.
Special notice
This lot will be removed to an off-site warehouse at the close of business on the day of sale - 2 weeks free storage
