8° (195 x 116mm). Engraved title device, woodcut head- and tailpieces. C3 signed. (Title slightly soiled at margin, old stab marks, oxydisation stain obscuring a few letters on D7v, final 2 leaves short at foremargin.) 20th-century calf-backed cloth by Sangorski and Sutcliffe. Provenance: pencil scoring and a few notes in a 19th-century hand -- Philip Robinson (sold Sotheby's, 23 June 1988, lot 75).
FIRST EDITION of Gay's town Georgic. Lintot printed 2000 of these ordinary copies and a further 250 copies on fine paper. A second London edition and two Dublin editions appeared in the same year. Ashley II, p. 135; Foxon G81; Hayward 142; Rothschild 914.
