Lot Essay

The tomb was built for the third Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great (1542 1605). It was he who began building the structure in around 1600, as according to Tartar tradition, he was obliged to initiate the tomb's construction before he died. After his death, Akbar's son Jahangir completed the construction in 1605-1613.
