Mary Kay Dodson was employed by Paramount Pictures between 1944-49, working alongside Edith Head. Their relationship was somewhat strained, because of Dodson getting her contract directly through her connections within Paramount, and Head believing that because of her lack of training that she [Dodson] would never amount to anything. However, because of her own glamorous style, friendships with important Hollywood ladies, and natural talent, Dodson soon rose to be given assignments as fully important as Head's. Notably, certain actresses such as Joan Caulfield and Lucille Ball would request Dodson for their films, much to Head's dismay. Dodson would leave Paramount to take up a position as a retail designer in New York, after marrying a gentleman she initially met when invited to the remarriage of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
