Lot Essay

A similar wardrobe with finely figured mahogany, a molded cornice and simply paneled doors but with ball feet bears the stamp for Gillows of Lancaster and was made for Charles Herbert Pierrepoint, 2nd Earl Manvers of Thoresby Hall near Newark, Nottinghamshire, 1822, illustrated in S. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, 2008, vol. II, p. 67, pl. 614.
