CASE: replaced brass handle to inverted bell top, glazed side panels DIAL: 7 in. wide brass dial with mask and cherub spandrels to silvered chapter ring signed 'Jon Lowndes London', false pendulum aperture, date square and ringed winding hole to matted centre, blued steel hands MOVEMENT: five pillars, single gut fusee, converted to anchor escapement (pallets and backcock lacking), repeating the hours and quarters on two bells, foliate engraved back plate signed 'Jont. Lowndes/in the Pall Mall/London'

Lot Essay

Jonathan Lowndes (born circa 1657) was made a Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company in 1680 and is recorded at The Dial in Pall Mall from 1683. There is no record of him after 1702.
A timepiece table clock with pull quarter repeat by Lowndes was sold, Christie's London, 21 January 2010, lot 14 (£16,250).
