Lot Essay

John Gudgeon is recorded working at the Butter Market, Bury St. Edmunds. He went into partnership with Mary Lumley, whose daughter he married in 1785. He traded as Lumley and Gudgeon until 1800 when he continued on his own. He died in 1835.
