La Tâche--Vintage 1985
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Percy Fox slip labels. Consecutive bottle numbers: 000429 to 000434. One very slightly corroded capsule. Excellent appearance, one very slightly bin-soiled label. Levels: two 1cms or better, one 2.5cms, two 3cms and one 4.5cms below base of capsules. In original wooden case with slightly damaged lid
Tasting Note: First tasted at the Domaine, October 1990: deep, rich, intense, yet showing some maturity; extraordinary aroma, back to its brilliant self after the preceding dreary vintages, spreading and fluttering its wings like a bird after the rain. The sweetness of ripe grapes and alcohol, assertive, great length, dry finish. Six years later, from an American cellar, showing well. KMost recently: beautiful in all respects. At its most gloriously fragrant best. Last noted at the closing dinner of Stephen Kaplan's 1985 vintage event in Chicago, April 2000 ***** M.B.
