Fry averaged 70 runs or above; J.H. King was one of three players who scored two separate hundreds in a first class match, along with Tom Hayward and James Seymour. Hayward scored a total of eleven centuries, followed by Fry with ten, Hirst nine, then Ranjitsinhji and J.T. Tyldesley with eight each. Among the bowlers B.J.T. Bosanquet took 9 for 107 in one innings, MCC and Ground v South Africa at Lord's; while Colin Blythe's best figures were 7 for 49, Kent v Hampshire. Blythe delivered his first 12 overs for one run against Sussex at Tunbridge Wells, 11-13 July, 'that being all that was scored from his bowling in one hour'; in the Sussex second innings, Ranji nevertheless scored 135 out of 179 in 125 minutes. Slow scoring is also noticed. On the last day of the Sussex v. Yorkshire match at Brighton in August, 'Fry gave a very wearying display, taking 2 hours and 20 minutes to add 69 to his overnight score' though obtaining 'the personal satisfaction of beating his previous highest score of the season ... by three runs'.
