Gaston's letter to Sims comments on the 'Sussex v Kent cricket picture controversy', stating that the match depicted actually took place at Hove not Brighton, that 'Old Lilly' did not play, while 'Hawkins who is fielding at point in the picture died in 1846 so he could not have possibly played in the Sussex XI in 1848'.
