Wood-engraved illustrations (first two seasons) and fielding diagrams. 1870 with 5p. ads at end. (Title to 1865 detaching and affected by paste mark, a few margins close cut, 1871 lacking end advertisements and with corners creased.) Contemporary half calf with dates '1865-70' on spine label, comb-marbled endpapers and edges (rubbed, front endpaper almost detached, wrappers not preserved), original printed green wrappers for 1871 (spine and corners worn). Provenance: William Higgins (bookplate and signature in bound volume).

The first seven volumes of the Companion, of 21 eventually published, 1865-1885. A good set though only 1871 is in wrappers. Allen 56; West p. 8; Padwick 1088. (2)
