The monument in the Scuola di S. Marco, Venice, was first designed in 1481 by Verrochio, inspired by the Gattamelata Monument at Padua. However, Verrochio died before the project's completion, and the work was finished by Leopardi. The former has been credited with the general conception, but the animation and richness of detail in the original bronze is associated with Leopardi, and it is his name that is inscribed on that statue.
