Lot Essay

The English interest in the French styles and designs continued to flourish during the Napoleonic Wars, Ackermann responded to such interest by publishing designs in his Repository of the Arts, Vol. XIII, 2nd Series, 1882, inspired by the Empire style and Percier. See Margaret Joudain, Regency Furniture, page 104, fig.248, the illustrated example with an acknowledgement to the Duke of Wellington.
