Lot Essay

Portrait of Mrs Morimoto and her son depicts the wife and son of Kiyoshi Morimoto, the vice-president of the Kobe city assembly and one of Burliuk's most important patrons during his stay in Japan from 1920 to 1922. The same figures appear in the family portrait which Morimoto commissioned from Burliuk and which now hangs in the Hyogo Prefecture Museum of Art.
