By the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg, period of Nicholas I
The cup bulbous, on spreading circular foot, with flared gilt rim, the body decorated with gilt, green, red and black strapwork cartouches centering an Imperial double-headed eagle and the monogram of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich, alternating with foliate motifs, with scroll handle, the saucer with conforming decoration and centring an Imperial double-headed eagle, the cup marked under base with underglaze blue factory mark and incised numeral '5', the saucer apparently unmarked (2)

Lot Essay

Based on a design by Feodor Solntsev (1801-1892), the designer of the Kremlin Service, this service was ordered in 1848 for the marriage of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich to Alexandra Iosifovna, Princess of Saxe-Altenburg and produced from 1848 to 1852.
