JIAQING IRON-RED SIX CHARACTER SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1796-1820)
Decorated with a depiction of Zhao E, waering turquoise and blue robes, a sword held above her head, before a long inscription entitled Zhao E yun, (The Resentment of Zhao E) written within two linked circular chains, followed by an inscription recording the story of Zhao E

Lot Essay

The lady depicted is based on the historical character, Zhao E, of the Eastern Han dynasty (AD 25-220) who set out to avenge the wrongful death of her father and three brothers.
