Contemporary red goatskin covers with wide gilt drawer-handle borders enclosing small flower tools, floral corner ornaments, inner panel with anchors at the corners, large central anchor ornament, spine in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered in one compartment, a repeated gilt panel with anchor ornament in the rest, board edges gilt, turn-ins with gilt Greek roll border, pale green watered silk linings with gilt borders and floral corner tools, edges gilt concealing a CONTEMPORARY FORE-EDGE PAINTING OF THE "MONMOUTH" ENGAGED IN BATTLE WITH THE "FOUDROYANT" AIDED BY THE "SWIFTSURE" AND THE "HAMPTON COURT" (joints worn, some light rubbing, upper endpaper detached); modern cloth slipcase.
