4o (190 x 128 mm). Engraved portrait by W. MARSHALL, folding woodcut, and full-page woodcut at end. Blue morocco gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut, by Bedford (front cover detached). Provenance: Britwell sale (purchased by Rosenbach, pencil inscription on front free endpaper); William Augustus White (1843-1927), collector of Shakespeare, Blake, the Elizabethans and Romantics (pencil inscription dated 14 March 1922).
FIRST EDITION. Robert Devereux, 3rd Earl of Essex, died on 14 Deptember 1646 and was buried "in great state at the public expense" (DNB). The folding plate shows the funeral procession and the final cut shows the lying in state. Wing G-5.
